Every so often in the world of music, an act emerges proudly proclaiming its uniqueness, its disinterest in the norm and its potential for a change. Giving it his all at every performance and gaining fans with every play, Johnnny3Rounds is one of Jersey’s up and coming hip-hop artists. In an era when lyrical content in rap and hip-hop has dipped to shocking lows, J3 brings wit and intelligence to his rhymes. He combines his talent with his, “tell it like it is” personality to create thought provoking and inspiring hip-hop music. Johnny3Rounds speaks on his personal life issues; including social concerns, struggle, poverty, pain and the economy.
Johnny3Rounds, (born Juan Rojas), was born and raised in a studio apartment in Union City, NJ by parents Juan and Aida, of Puerto Rican descent. Growing up with music was inevitable since his father would always listen and play his instruments around him. It wasn’t too long until he would follow his fathers’ foot steps. “When I was young, I would take my fathers’ instruments and play with them while he was at work. My mom would always play cool and never tell him. Thank god music has always been around me, I’m grateful for that.” Like music, Johnny3Rounds is no stranger to life struggles, “At an early age, I discovered the value of money because we never had none.” Johnny3Rounds has no complaints because in his eyes, the struggles in his life have made him the man he is today.
At the age of 15, he began writing verses and at 18, he started writing and composing songs. “My first time inside a studio was right after high school.” He formed a music group with two of his friends called, the Usual Suspects. “We decided to put together a demo so we can shop it to different labels, never thinking we would get such a quick response.” The demo caught the ear of an executive at Universal Records which was interested in meeting with them. “We had a meeting and shared different ideas and he definitely seemed interested in signing us but nothing came about because a month later he was laid-off”. A year after that, the group broke-up and Johnny3Rounds found himself as a solo artist. “Those were the years when I began to really find myself musically, and linked up with Brown 13, Dee shot and WrekRoom Muzik.” He began performing locally in New Jersey and started creating a buzz for himself getting on local mix-tapes and being featured on different projects.
Since then he has been recording songs and performing through out New Jersey and New York City. “I currently have a project out called J3 vs. JD which is a mixtape with strictly J Dilla beats, and I‘m currently working on an album too.” Johnny3Rounds also produces beats, and co-hosts an online live stream radio show called the TurnTable-Izm Show. “The positive feedback I get from friends and devoted fans is the fuel that keeps me going.” In every essence of the word, Johnny3Rounds truly is Hip-Hop.
